The modernized LPG terminal was opened today at the Port of Riga

The modernized LPG terminal was opened today at the Riga port, strengthening the region's energy supply chainThe infrastructure of the modernized LPG terminal of SIA Latvijas Propāna Gāze was opened at the Riga port, allowing for the reception of large liquefied gas tankers from across the Atlantic and strengthening the liquefied gas supply chain to the Baltic and Eastern European markets.Approximately 10 million euros were invested in the development of the terminal. The company is part of the investor group of the Estonian B2G Group and the international raw material company Trafigura. B2G Group is part of the Estonian capital-based AVH Group, which also includes Alexela: the energy company with the widest range of energy services in Estonia. The modernized infrastructure allows the Riga port to serve large LPG tankers bringing liquefied gas from transatlantic markets. During the official opening, the 180-meter-long tanker CERRO ALTO EXPLORER, carrying 20,000 tons of liquefied propane from the United States, was present at the port. The first shipment from the west arrived in Riga at the end of 2024 from Sweden, and the first ships from the USA arrived in 2025. The modernization of the terminal solidifies Riga's role as an important liquefied gas logistics center, from which deliveries move on to the Baltic States, Scandinavia, and Central and Eastern Europe.Heiti Hääl: Energy security requires diverse supply chainsHeiti Hääl, Chairman of the Board and main shareholder of Latvijas Propāna Gāze: “In recent years, geopolitical changes have shown how important a diverse and reliable energy supply chain is. During this time, AVH Group has grown Alexela into one of the companies with the largest energy services portfolios in Estonia, invested in the LNG terminal in Hamina, Finland, and now also in LPG infrastructure in Riga.”As part of the terminal modernization, a 780-meter gas pipeline was built between the deep-water quay and the terminal, along with a modern technological complex for LPG handling and a multi-level automated security system.

How to choose a suitable electricity package for yourself?

First, you need to review the size of your electricity consumption. If you are already an Alexela customer, you can see information in Alexela's self-service portal and Alexela app, but if you are a new customer, the easiest way is to check your consumption size on the network operator's website. In Estonia, the largest of these is Elektrilevi. It is worth noting that from Elektrilevi's self-service, you can immediately check if the appropriate network package has been selected. According to consumption, you will also see the network package recommended for you there.Once the consumption is known, you need to consider if you are the type of family who can and wants to monitor their consumption against the market price and if you have, for example, solar panels installed on the house and purchased a battery solution. If the answer is yes, then a sensible choice is a market price electricity package. Suitable solutions from market price packages for large consumers are Alexela Kodupakett or Virtuaalaku electricity package. If the market price seems risky and you want to plan your budget as accurately as possible, we recommend choosing some form of fixed package for yourself. Alexela recommends a 6-month fixed price electricity package or Paindlik fiks and for apartment residents, the electricity package Kindel maht. However, if you are the type of electricity consumer who does not want to directly monitor the market price but follows the market and prefers to fix it for the winter, as consumption can then increase purely due to weather conditions and you do not want to take risks during this period, it is sensible to choose either the Electricity package Vali ise or to fix the electricity price for 6 months and return to the market price in spring - before summer. When choosing a fixed package, it is important to consider how long you want to enter into the contract - if you are the type of customer we referred to in the previous paragraph, it is worth avoiding contracts that incur costs associated with terminating and changing the contract. In addition to the s/kWh price, it is also worth reviewing the size of the monthly fees. For market price, be sure to look at the market price history, as this gives an idea of what price fluctuations may occur and a sense of whether you are really ready to take those peak price risks. It is worth reviewing the electricity package once a year, and you will always be helped by Alexela's excellent customer service representatives, who will find the best solutions for your needs. In addition, there are three simple questions here that will help you review at any time whether your electricity package meets your current desires and lifestyle.

Electricity market volatility increases interest in price stability

The high electricity exchange price has led many consumers in Estonia to reconsider their choices. In January, when the exchange price reached the highest level in recent years and remained high into early February, interest in fixed-price electricity packages clearly increased. At Alexela, we see that more and more customers are switching from exchange-based packages to fixed-price ones to bring more certainty and predictability to their energy expenses."Right now, customers are primarily looking for price stability, but at the same time, they don't want to give up flexibility. That's why the most popular option has been the six-month fixed price period — it offers short-term security while keeping the option to reassess decisions as the market changes," explains Ester Ausmees, Head of the Private Customer Segment at Alexela. We have introduced electricity packages suitable for different consumption profiles. Our goal is to provide a solution both for those who prefer security and stability and for those who want to actively benefit from price fluctuations. Essentially, Alexela’s package selection meets the expectations even of the most demanding energy consumers. For those who want to make a more confident choice, it's possible to explore the packages in more detail and test the most suitable solution for their consumption profile on Alexela’s website or ask our customer service team for advice.Read the full article
